Dehradun, as its name itself, denotes ‘dera’ meaning home and ‘doon’ meaning valley, as it is located near the Himalayan foothills. It is one of the northern states of India having an altitude of 640 meters to 1000 meters above mean sea level. It is the major attraction of tourists due to its beautiful and mesmerizing beauty and because it is surrounded by Uttarkashi by the north, Tehri and Pauri Garhwal by the east, and Saharanpur and Haridwar by the south.

The foremost thing that first arises in our mind is the means of transport i.e., how to reach there. We can reach Dehradun by train as train services are available there, by self-driving, by bus or by air as there is a Jolly Grant airport which is far away from the city.

Historical or mythological connection-

As every place has a link with some historical and mythological connection. Dehradun is said to have a link with Guru Dronacharya who visited Dehradun in search of peace. He was delighted by the beauty and atmosphere that he made his ashram here.

What to visit in Dehradun-

You can start your visit by visiting temples which are as follows-

Tapkeshwar Mandir- It is one of the ancient temples which is a dedication to Lord Shiva. On the festive occasion of Shivratri, the temple is beautifully decorated and a fair is organized and people in huge numbers take part in the fair.

Buddha Temple- The Buddha Temple is located near Clement Town. It is a Tibetan Buddhist Temple depicting the culture of Tibetans.The walls of the temple are painted and there is a work of art depicting the life of Lord Buddha.

Rudreshwar Temple- The Rudreshwar Mahadev Mandir is situated at Tapovan in Dehradun, which is almost 5 km ahead of Dehradun. It is said that the ashram of Guru Dronacharya was located here.

• Mussoorie ( Queen of Mountains,and 33 km away from dehradun) -This place is known for landour, Mussoorie Mall road and kempty falls.This place is best when you want to enjoy some cold pleasant weather.The best time to visit here is in the month of September to June.
• Dhanaulti- Dhanaulti is almost 36 km from Dehradun and 25 km from Mussoorie. If you are planning for a weekend trip away from Dehradun you must have a visit here. The perfect time to visit here is in winters.
• Chakrata- Chakrata is almost 88 kms from dehradun. You can avoid travelling here in monsoon because it is bit dangerous. The main attraction here are Tiger Falls, Bairat khai, Chilmiri.

Best time to visit Dehradun-

You can enjoy Dehradun in the month of March to June because the temperature at this time is pleasant. The maximum temperature at this time is 35 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is 17 degrees Celsius.

Trekking- There are various trekking places near Dehradun that will leave you surprised by the greenery and beauty of nature.

• Trekking to George Everest house-This beautiful place for trekking is fully adventurous place if you love adventure. The trek is almost 20 km starting from Bhatta village along with Hathipaon.

• Chopta Chandrasila trek-In this trek you can literally enjoy and see the colors of nature.The altitude is almost 13000 ft. The beauty of this place will surely make you feel love with nature.

Har ki dun trek- This trek is almost at an altitude of 11,700 ft. It is one of the most beautiful trek destinations one can see.

Boating-Boating is also there to do boat tours. One who loves water sports or likes doing boating should give it a try.

• Wander land Adventure-This boating site is located in Vasant Vihar phase1.If you are expecting to have an amazing experience you must try boating here once.Here you can also do river rafting and tubing.

After doing all this adventure and everything you must be hungry, right!! Dehradun is also famous for its street food like- 

• Momos- Momos is loved by everyone around the world.If you are a vegetarian you can have veg momos and vice-versa.

Chhole poori-If you want to have something fulfilling then you must head to Chetan Poori Waala in Hanuman Chowk.
